June Project

#LoveWhereYouLive
#LoveYourNeighbour

#LoveWoodbridge

A few years ago we set the people of Woodbridge Quay Church a challenge.  In a world full of a lot of bad news we wanted to be good news to the town of Woodbridge.

As part of wanting to express 'extravagant love' to our community we believed that we should bless our community in lots of little ways and we wanted to be doing that as a church both individually and corporately in some way.  The target and the challenge set, was that combined together, could we reach 1000 hours of blessing Woodbridge?  This would be done in lots of little ways, from litter picks, to prayer walks, from visiting the lonely, to painting a children's park fence.  What amazed us was that we managed to smash it!

This year we want to return to this venture, and intentionally go out of our way to bless where we live this June.  You don't have to live in Woodbridge to take part, you can do this wherever you live or work.

It might be that you make some cupcakes for you entire neighbourhood and go drop them off. Organise a litter pick. It might be that you help do some voluntary work in the community for a couple of hours. It might be that you check in on an elderly neighbour who might not normally be seen by anyone, it's all a way of being good news where we live.

Unlike a few years ago, this year, we're not going to log our hours spent doing these things.  What we do want to do, is to hear some good news stories, good news stories, of how you have gone out of your way to love where you live.

This is also the reason that we haven't planned to do anything over the Jubilee weekend as a church, because we want to encourage you to get involved in the celebrations and street party's where you live.  These are our 'frontlines,' the June Project is about being good news in these places, showing love to our neighbours and our neighbourhoods.

We hope you can be part of showing how love has the power to transform.

Some Ideas…

Some ideas...

Whilst the types of things that you can do to bless the community of Woodbridge is not exhaustive, if you are struggling for ideas as to what you might do as part of the June Project, why not check out some of these ideas?

1. You could offer to babysit for some friends with children so they can have some time out.

2. You could buy a coffee for the next person in the queue at the coffee shop.

3. You could host a barbecue for your next door neighbours.

4. You could offer to walk your neighbour’s dog.

5. You could make thank you cards for public sector workers like teachers, policemen, nurses.

6. You could make cakes for your neighbourhood and maybe spend some time with your neighbours when you deliver them.

7. You can add some extra items to your shopping each week to donate to the food bank.

8. You could wash your neighbours car.

9. You can go on a prayer walk of Woodbridge and pray for the local community and businesses

10. You could offer to clean out a neighbours wheelie bins

11. You can have a sort out of your clothing and belongings and donate your excess things to a local charity.

12. You could take some cupcakes to your local school for their staffroom.

13. You could do some litter picking of your neighbourhood or do some weeding of the streets and pavements.

14. You could make a freezable meal for a neighbour or friend who’s going through a hard time.

15. You could chat to an elderly neighbour and see if they need any shopping.

16. You could ring your local care home, would they like anyone to visit their residents.

17. Invite your neighbours round for a coffee so that you can get to know them better.

18. Challenge yourself to get involved in volunteering for a local charity

19. You could do some gardening for an elderly neighbour.

20. Bake a loaf cake, wrap it up in a ribbon and gift it to someone who needs cheering up.
